Echoes & Epilogues

"Since when do you call yourself a writer?" I asked. "Since when do you call yourself a musician?" She replied. "I'm a music enthusiast, not a musician," I replied with a smirk. Her lips curled at one end. It was her signature smile back from days when we were more familiar with each other. She sucked the straw emptying her glass of butter fruit juice in a gulp and still sucked making funny noises. Some things seldom change, I thought. "Some things don't change at all, do they?" She asked as if reading my mind. My surprise must've been visible like the glimmer of sunlight caught in a sliver of a mirror. "What?" she asked, a soft chuckle accompanying her words. She beamed like a fortuneteller after successfully predicting a jackpot in the lottery. "Nothing. I was just thinking the same thing. Somethings don't change at all." I replied somberly.   But thinking of it, she had actually changed a lot. No...

Evening star

"Are you crying?" She read his message on WhatsApp. She wanted to reply "Yes." She even typed yes with a sad emoji. But she couldn't hit send. The album she was currently listening to was over and the unpleasant music of steel plates flying below her, inside her house grew louder. Loud yells and unpleasant words were also flying around along with the utensils. Some into the kitchen and some away from it. But she was far away from all that. Sitting on the terrace, she felt closer to the stars than her home. He was maybe 30 - 40 Km. Away from her, yet he was farther than the stars were to her. And downstairs was the farthest. She backspaced the yes she had typed. She replaced the emoji with a blank face emoji. She didn't want to say no , he would know her lies. He knows her well enough to know her lies. Or maybe it's just become a habit that anyone would know. But  HE  knows. That meant something to her. She sent the emoji and played a different pla...

Image

As inevitable as death

Image
People often assume that life and death are opposites, just like the concept of shadow and light. Although they sound like opposites, I believe that one cannot exist without the other. It makes me wonder, what's a world without both light and shadow? what's a world without life and death? Does that contradict nature's principles? But does nature really have any principles? If they do, who governs, who monitors, and who adheres to these principles? who speaks nature's propaganda to the world? Is it us humans because we are "gifted" with 6-senses? Or does nature speak for itself? Does it matter at all? If so, to whom does it matter? and to whom it doesn't? It is analogous to how people perceive that questions and answers exist to contradict each other. We think answers deconflict questions and dissolve them. But do they? I believe that questions exist to gain clarity on answers and answers exist to gain clarity on questions to ask next. Doesn't that make...
